Student Life Residences for The School of Visual Arts : Ludlow Street, New York, NY
Belden Brick Sales and Service has recently completed materials delivery for this new mid-rise building located in the Lower Eastside section of Manhattan. The design architects conceptualized using brick in an artistic way to compliment the end-use of the building that will house creative design and photography students from a nearby art school.
Based on the vibrancy of the streets below, this free-standing building can be seen at this busy crossroads and features a very unique use of Belden Utility sized products.
The design firm selected 6 individual Belden colors to blend together in pre-organized wall sections measuring 2'4" x 5'. The brick patterning mapped an image of moving water across the facade. Looked at from a distance, the visually pixilated brick units resolve into that flowing graphic image.
The facade was pre-plotted and entirely hand-laid by masons following exacting diagrams.
